First Light Games is delighted to announce that the company’s first game, Blast Royale, has managed to obtain a massive $5 million in a private token sale co-led by Animoca Brands and Mechanism Capital.

Other investors and partners who took part in the seed round include Polygon, Merit Circle, AvocadoDAO, Dragonfly Capital, Play Ventures Future Fund, DeFiance Capital, Double Peak, C² Ventures, Morningstar Ventures, DWeb3, Shima Capitol and Ancient 8.

Co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, Yat Sui, commented:

“We are very impressed with the high quality of gameplay in Blast Royale. Given the progress so far and the First Light Games team’s strong pedigree of several iconic hit games, we believe that Blast Royale will be an appealing and compelling metaverse entry for a new generation of gamers.”

Blast Royale is First Light Games’ first foray into the world of blockchain gaming. It is a free-to-play, play-and-earn battle royale where 30 players battle it out using equipment obtained for free or equipment in the form of NFTs in top-down gameplay. The winner, as well as the top 5 surviving in a match, earns Blast tokens ($BLST), an ERC-20 cryptocurrency that will be used for crafting items as well as buying and selling equipment. Holders can also gain early access to new features, take part in governance votes, as well as have special access to various NFT drops.

Neil McFarland, CEO of First Light Games, said:

“We are thrilled to have such strong backing from some of the most influential investors in blockchain gaming. All of our partners share our vision for making Blast Royale one of the best gaming titles, providing compelling, fun gameplay and creating a Battle Royale game suitable for the Web3 generation.”

First Light Games consists of various experienced developers who have worked on AAA titles for PC, console and mobile devices. Some works the company’s team members were a part of include Monument Valley, Monument Valley 2, Fable, World of Warships and Street Fighter IV.

Blast Royale is slated for a Q3 2022 beta release.
