Decentraland Merges AI and Web3 with the Launch of AI NPCs, Sophiaverse, and More
The OG metaverse is planning to host a series of AI-based activations, starting with the launch of its AI NPCs and a dedicated HQ for Hanson Robotics' Sophia the Robot.

Embracing AI developments with Decentraland
Decentraland (DCL), a leading user-generated metaverse, has welcomed the advent of artificial intelligence with the launch of AI NPCs, Sophiaverse, and a host of virtual activations.
While many have speculated on the enormous potential of merging AI with Web3 tech, Decentraland seeks to enter this new frontier by releasing its own AI NPCs: Simone, Aisha, and Dodge, all of which are stationed at Genesis Plaza. These NPCs, powered by Inworld AI, a platform for developing AI characters, are ready to discuss all things Web3 and answer any questions about DCL.
To encourage users to incorporate AI characters into their virtual scenes, the Decentraland Foundation has released an open-source NPC Library to help creators add dynamic, customizable NPCs to their virtual plots. Inworld also offers a free month of their Pro subscription to the first 200 users who sign up, giving them 10x more time to chat with intelligent avatars.
"It is thrilling to venture into the possibilities of AI in animating virtual hosts and introducing innovative methods for crafting narratives in immersive experiences. We are also currently working on integrating Blockade Games' text-to-skybox tool, Skybox AI, which we foresee being especially useful for customizing Worlds with minimal effort," said Yemel Alvarez, Decentraland Foundation's Executive Director.
Aside from the NPCs, Decentraland has launched Sophiaverse, an AI center dedicated to Sophia the Robot, a well-known AI celebrity. The robot's new home will serve as a lab where visitors can chat with Sophia and learn about the latest breakthroughs in AI research while playing games and earning rewards.
DCL will also hold a 3-day AI World Fair in October, where brands and companies will showcase their works, with experts discussing the ideas and opportunities around artificial intelligence. Users can experience new tools and features in a gamified environment. Those eager to participate should stay tuned for further announcements.
