The Walt Disney Company has announced the six companies that will participate in the 2022 Disney Accelerator, a business development program aimed at accelerating the growth of creative enterprises from across the world.

2022 Disney Accelerator Participants Announced

The programme runs each summer and concludes with a demonstration event in October, focusing on entertainment technology and providing investment capital, access to space at Disney's co-working campus in Los Angeles, and advice from Disney's top executives and business leaders in entertainment and technology. Epic Games, the creators of Unreal Engine and Fortnite, and Hanson Robotics, specialists in human facial animatronics, are two famous startups that have participated in the Disney Accelerator program.

The companies selected for the 2022 Disney Accelerator program are:

  • Flickplay: Flickplay is a Web3 social app that enables users to discover NFTs tied to real-world locations that they can experience and share via AR. Inworld: Inworld allows users to create interactive, AI-driven characters for immersive experiences.
  • Lockerverse: Lockerverse is a Web3 platform that empowers creators and brands to tell culture-defining stories and deliver unique access and experiences.
  • Obsess: Obsess is an experiential e-commerce platform that enables brands to create immersive 3D virtual stores on their websites and on metaverse platforms.
  • Polygon: Polygon is a scalable blockchain network that allows developers and enterprises to build Web3 experiences.
  • Red 6: Red 6 is an AR company that has created a patented headset and interface that works outdoors in dynamic, high-performance environments.

The enterprises range from startups still in the "growth phase" to technology firms contracted by the United States Air Force, but all are involved in Web3 technology. None of the companies appears to have overlapping expertise, and each appears to be focusing on a specific aspect or experience of Web3.

Flickplay is a Web3 AR firm that focuses on NFTs (called "Flicks") that users can discover or purchase in the real world via augmented reality. Users can utilize Inworld's software to construct dynamic AI-driven characters which generate their own dialogue for gaming, Metaverse, and business applications. Obsess is a B2B service that creates virtual retail storefronts for businesses, providing a new-yet-familiar experience for customers.

Polygon is a blockchain and Web3 scaling solution for the Ethereum network that provides quicker transaction rates and lower costs than the Ethereum Mainnet. Lockerverse is described as "a Web3 platform that empowers creators and companies to tell culture-defining stories and give unique access and experiences," but no additional information (or even a website) can be discovered. Finally, Red6 created the Airborne Tactical Augmented Reality System (ATARS), an advanced AR headgear and interface built for the United States Air Force to teach new pilots.
