FC Barcelona Releases Empowerment NFT Featuring Alexia Putellas in Their Web3 Journey
FC Barca releases an empowerment NFT signaling an intent to assemble a community via the Web3 route.
FC Barcelona continues to progress in the Web3 space with its latest announcement of a non-fungible token (NFT) release. This time, the focus is on Alexia Putellas, a prominent Spanish professional footballer and a vital player for the club.
Named "Empowerment," the NFT showcases a remarkable artwork created by Rhi Madeline, a Canadian artist known for her transition from traditional oil painting to 3D digital art. Madeline is a member of World of Women, an NFT project that promotes inclusivity in both the physical and digital realms. The artwork pays tribute to Putellas' exceptional performance in the Champions League semi-final against Wolfsburg, where she scored two crucial goals, capturing the essence of her talent, skill, and determination on the field.

The Empowerment NFT is minted on the Polygon blockchain and will be available for auction starting Monday, June 26th, at 4 pm CEST, through the popular OpenSea NFT marketplace. The auction will run until June 28th, also at 4 pm CEST.
The fortunate winner of the auction will not only acquire the digital collectible and gain exclusive access to its utility. This includes an opportunity to meet and greet Alexia Putellas, receive a pair of autographed soccer boots, and own a physical seat from Spotify Camp Nou, the iconic stadium where FC Barcelona plays its home matches.
Empowerment is the second NFT in FC Barcelona's ten-piece Masterpiece collection, which aims to celebrate significant moments and legendary figures in the club's history. The first release in this collection, "In A Way, Immortal" by Johan Cruyff, paid homage to Cruyff's unforgettable "impossible goal" against Atletico Madrid in 1973 and fetched an impressive bid of $693,000 during its auction in July 2022.
FC Barcelona has been actively embracing the potential of the Web3 world. Recently, the club partnered with Plastiks to launch an NFT collection that supports environmental sustainability. Furthermore, in August 2022, FC Barcelona and its rival Real Madrid filed a joint trademark application to enter the metaverse, demonstrating their commitment to exploring new digital frontiers.
