Ford Enters Web3 with 19 NFT and Metaverse Trademark Applications

What are Ford's plans with its newly registered Web3 trademarks

Making a grand entrance into Web3, Ford Motor Company has filed 19 NFT and metaverse trademark applications for all of its major brands. With that, the company plans to offer virtual trucks, clothing, and online stores for NFT. Here's the scoop.

According to trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis, these applications were filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) by Ford Motor Company on September 2nd. F-150 Lightning, Lincoln, Mustang, Ranger, and Explorer are some of the top lineups referenced in the applications.

Ford's applications also cover a range of goods and services as below:

  • Virtual automobiles, SUVs, trucks and vans, land vehicle parts and accessories, and clothing;
  • Online retail store services featuring non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and digital collectibles.

Other automakers on Web3

As more and more companies enter Web3, Ford has become one of the biggest brands to jump on the bandwagon. So far, the American automaker has not revealed any further details about its NFT ventures. That's something to keep an eye on for sure.

Besides that, Renault Korea Motors is another carmaker that hopped into Web3. The South Korean branch of Renault SA recently partnered with The Sandbox to offer a virtual automotive experience.

In July, Nissan Motors became the first car manufacturer to enter the metaverse using 2D and 3D VR techs. Under its Ariya campaign, visitors could access Nissan's virtual city available across mobile, PC, and AR/VR platforms.

And let's not forget about Hyundai, another active Web3 proponent within the car industry. In April, the company launched its own NFT Universe and NFT collection in partnership with Meta Kongz. After that, Hyundai released even more virtual collectibles based on its vehicle lineups. The firm eventually filed six NFT and metaverse trademarks for its Genesis crest on July 7th.

Even so, it remains to be seen what exciting Web3 ventures Ford will take on in the future. So make sure to sit tight and enjoy the ride!
