Apple is hiring talents to develop its virtual world and mixed-reality headset

Apple, one of the biggest tech companies in the world, has ramped up efforts to enter the metaverse. According to Bloomberg, the Cupertino-based tech firm is now searching for talents to build its virtual realm and bolster its AR/VR headset with 3D virtual content.

Notably, the first headset by Apple is expected to launch sometime in 2023. Likely to cost between $2,000 to $3,000, the high-end device will run on an M2 chip with a wide array of cameras and sensors to accurately recreate users' leg movements. It's likely to be called Reality One or Reality Pro, based on a few trademark filings by Apple.

In Apple, the Technology Development Group, or TDG, is the team behind this premium headset. Bloomberg recently reported that TDG is looking for a software producer who can create digital content for augmented and virtual reality environments. The listing also suggests that the firm is looking to build a video service for the device featuring 3D content playable in virtual reality.

Apple is also searching for engineers who can work on development tools intended for virtual and augmented realities. It appears that the company wants its new operating system to use App Intents, a framework that allows apps to work with features like Siri and Shortcuts.

Interestingly, another job listing calls for the development of a 3D mixed-reality world. This suggests that Apple is working on a virtual realm similar to the metaverse we know today.

No doubt, the metaverse has become an exciting investment opportunity for technology firms, and Apple is not getting left behind. While nothing is confirmed at this point, it will be interesting to see how it tackles the metaverse market down the road.
