Klang Games to supercharge the development of MMO simulation SEED

On July 6th, Berlin-based Klang Games closed a $41 million Series C funding round to build its upcoming MMO simulation game - SEED. Notably, Animoca Brands and Kingsway Capital led the round, with participation from other investors such as Anthos, Novator, Supercell, Roosh Ventures, AngelHub, and New Life Ventures. Given that, the studio raised nearly $80 million to date.

To start off, SEED is Klang Games' massively multiplayer online (MMO) simulation game in the making. Powered by Improbable’s SpatialOS platform, players can control AI-driven characters called Seedlings on a virtual planet named Avesta. As SEED aims to build a fully functional metaverse, Seedling will carry on with their lives, even if players are logged out of the game.

“This funding not only gives us the security of knowing that we have the resources for years of development, [but] it also shows us that people believe in our vision, which is the best motivation for us,” said Mundi Vondi, CEO of Klang Games, in a statement.

Apart from stepping up the development of SEED, the latest funding will help Klang Games to grow its team rapidly. In particular, the company is looking to more than double the current staff from 70 to over 150 by next year. “We are certainly trying to hire very aggressively for the next 12 months or so,” Vondi told VentureBeat.

Klang Games onboarded an EA veteran as well

On the same day, the studio announced the addition of Electronic Arts veteran Isabelle Henriques as the new co-CEO and COO of Klang Games. Prior to this, she was a Studio Director and Lead Producer at EA. Throughout her 14-year career though, Henriques worked on several AAA titles such as Call of Duty, The Sims, and Madden.

“I am thrilled to be working with Klang Games. SEED is really pushing the boundaries of the gaming industry and I am excited to be a part of it,” said Isabelle Henriques, co-CEO and COO of Klang Games. “Since coming in contact with Klang and SEED, I have been amazed by the quality of the team and the innovative nature of their vision. I cannot wait to be a part of making this unprecedented game a reality.”

Indeed, many can't wait for Klang Games to release its ambitious project. Till then, feel free to check out other MMO blockchain games in the space!
