Kongregate partners with Immutable X to start a $40 million fund for blockchain games
Alongside the huge fund, game developers will also have access to a blockchain SDK and more. The browser gaming giant is set to relaunch as a Web3 gaming platform later this year.
Browser gaming giant Kongregate has partnered up with Ethereum-based Layer 2 carbon-neutral platform Immutable X to kick-start a $40 million fund from an IMX token pool, aimed at supporting blockchain game developers.
The Chief Technology Officer of Kongregate, Max Murphy, said the following in the company’s latest developer blog post:
“With the relaunch of Kongregate.com for web3, we’re once again creating a destination unlike any other for developers and gamers to come together to discover, chat about and play games! As gamers ourselves who have long been dedicated to what made the original site so fun and special for millions of community members worldwide, we’re excited to reopen doors with new, sustainable technology that enables players to uniquely experience and be a part of the games they dedicate their time to.”
Not only will developers have access to a blockchain SDK, but they’ll also be able to leverage “community growth services” as well as have tokenomics and game design consultations.
Markus Lipp, the CEO of Kongregate, added:
“We want our players to be owners in their personal gaming journeys. Blockchain technology allows us to give them a deeper experience in ways not possible with traditional games, from enabling players to help to shape what comes next in the storylines they love to being able to maintain their unique character across titles. Through our continued partnership with Immutable X, we’re ensuring that our players have the best NFT experience possible with technology that brings true innovation to gameplay, while also ensuring it’s green and scalable.”

With today’s launch of our blockchain developer fund, we’re excited to deepen our relationship with Kongregate as we work together to attract the best and brightest developers to build new titles on Kongregate’s relaunched web3 platform.”

Bit Heroes RPG is a cross-platform MMORPG that is very popular as a regular game on the platform, while Bit Heroes Arena is a battle royale; Runner is an endless dungeon runner and the last one is a card game. Bit Heroes Arena is slated for a Q3 release this year, while Runner is set to come out in Q4 2022. As of writing, pre-production on Bit Heroes CCG has not started yet.
