Kongregate unveils its NFT-powered Bitverse
The American web gaming company has announced its gaming universe called The Bitverse.
Renowned American video game publisher and web gaming platform Kongregate, notable for publishing popular games such as, ForgeofEmpires, Bit Heroes, SpongeBob, Surviv.io, 2D Battle Royale, among others has unveiled the Bitverse, a collection of Web3 games set within an 8-bit esque universe which will run on the Ethereum Layer-2 Immutable X.
The Bitverse was inspired by one of the games that will feature in it, the MMORPG Bit Heroes, a retrostyled game created in 2016 that became hugely successful with over 15million lifetime players.
According to Kongregate's Senior Director of product, Jorge G. Esquerra:
"The long-term goal of the Bitverse is to create a metaverse of cross-platform games united by the blockchain, with an NFT ‘Bit Hero’ that players can use in every game."
He further stated,
“With Bit Heroes’ retro vibes, our intention is to create a sense of nostalgia by returning to what Kongregate does best – bringing a community of gamers and developers together to create games with each other.”
Initially, the Bitverse will launch with Bit Heroes, but other games that will follow include Arena (Battle Royale), Runner, and CCG.
In the Bitverse, players can customize and improve the unique characters called Bit Heroes in the several games, and there will be fungible and non-fungible tokens for players to collect and earn.
The Bitverse‘s NFT avatars will be available for presale in Q2 2022. It’ll have its own token called Pixels ($BPXL)
Meanwhile, the Bitverse will expand over time to accommodate more games ranging from first-party games to community-funded and driven games.
