Lightspeed Faction Debuts $285 Million Blockchain Fund
With renewed investor interest in Web3, the fund seeks to revitalize the blockchain sector.

Lightspeed Faction, a joint effort between Lightspeed Venture Partners and Faction, has launched the Lightspeed Faction Fund I for early-stage crypto projects. This $285 million fund comes at a crucial time for the Web3 space, which is seeking to recover from crypto winter.
Faction Fund I is the result of a strategic collab. Faction itself is a Web3 venture firm launched by industry veterans Banafsheh Fathieh and Samuel Harrison. The move is seen as a major step toward revitalizing the blockchain sector, which has suffered a drop in financing.
The fund's release coincides with signs of a steady rebound in investor interest. This is shown by previous fundings such as SBI Holdings' 100 billion yen fund focusing on Web3, AI, and the metaverse.
With that, Faction sets itself apart by focusing on projects with practical, real-world applications. Its notable investments include Matter Labs, developer of zkSync, Aave's social media protocol Lens, and Crossmint, a special payment tool for NFT developers.
Banafsheh Fathieh, Co-Founder and General Partner at Faction, underlined the firm's commitment to fostering innovation in blockchain tech:
“[C]rypto is a generation-defining technology, and we are fully committed to investing behind the best entrepreneurs looking to propel blockchain technology forward. The blockchain ecosystem is full of promising projects looking to disrupt everything from financial systems to telecommunication.”
Lightspeed Venture will be supporting Faction, especially in blockchain-related efforts. Samuel Harrison, Co-founder and Managing Partner of Faction, highlighted the firm's successful history, stating that it has invested over $500 million in blockchain and early-stage startups.
The Faction fund marks a huge funding boost for the Web3 industry, suggesting cautious confidence and a renewed belief in blockchain's potential. It positions Lightspeed Faction as a key player in nurturing the next wave of Web3 innovation.
