Middle-earth Enterprises has filed a trademark application for “The Lord of the Rings” as it anticipates future virtual reality-based initiative implementation. The company owns exclusive worldwide rights to J.R.R. Tolkien’s two most famous literary works: The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was an English writer, poet, philologist and academic best known for authoring these literary works.

Details of the Application

According to the application presented to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on the 15th of September, 2022, with the serial number  “97593712”, the team has specifically mentioned “virtual reality game services online”  and “virtual reality arcade services”.

In a tweet released by Mike Kondoudis ESQ, metaverse law attorney, the owner of Tolkien’s literary work plans to provide the following services: Live Musical and stage performances, theatre productions, online VR games and amusement park services.

The application has depicted the company’s willingness to embrace new technologies and provide fans with more immersive gaming experiences.

The popularity of Virtual Reality has redefined the perspective of many people, hence the referral of Virtual Reality as the “future normality” of life. Subsequently, numerous companies have embarked on this journey by creating initiatives to gain a competitive edge over their contemporaries. The Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba Group Holding Limited recently unveiled a more immersive luxury shopping experience for its customers in the metaverse.

Likewise, American mass media company Disney has joined the train; the CEO has stated that Disney+ would likely become an immersive lifestyle platform where customers can experience park rides in virtual reality. Recently, the metaverse is gaining more attention as numerous traditional companies are delving into the space.
