Magic Eden Expands Platform and Offers Free SOL for NFT Trades
Magic Eden, the leading Solana NFT marketplace, is taking steps to enhance its platform and provide additional benefits to its users. With its new "Chapter II" initiative, Magic Eden aims to increase its openness and interoperability while also offering incentives for traders.
Magic Eden is expanding its platform
Magic Eden is now aggregating listings from competing marketplaces, allowing traders to manage their listings across platforms as well as access pricing and listings from the entire Solana NFT market in a single location. This move addresses the need for a unified marketplace while also simplifying trading for Solana NFT enthusiasts. Furthermore, Magic Eden intends to open-source its marketplace smart contract in the near future, promoting greater transparency and collaboration within the Solana ecosystem.
Responding to Critics and Introducing Incentives
Magic Eden will remove the "co-sign" feature that previously limited the aggregation of its marketplace listings by other NFT platforms in response to long-standing criticisms. This change will improve composability opportunities and allow Magic Eden to integrate more seamlessly with other marketplaces.
As part of the relaunch, Magic Eden is temporarily changing its "maker fee" to -0.25% for certain types of transactions. Magic Eden will essentially pay traders to buy and sell NFTs on its platform. For example, if you list an NFT for 100 SOL and it sells, you will receive 100.25 SOL. Furthermore, users can earn fees on Magic Eden by operating automated market maker (AMM) NFT trading pools, providing an additional source of potential rewards.
However, it is unclear whether Magic Eden will continue to use an escrow contract that holds users' listed NFTs in custody. Decrypt requested clarification from a Magic Eden representative but did not receive an immediate response.
Magic Eden's efforts coincide with the rise of Tensor, a competing platform that has gained significant market share in the Solana NFT space. Magic Eden is adapting and providing a more inclusive and rewarding experience for its users in order to maintain its position.
