This just in! Major Hollywood studio, Lionsgate has officially entered The Sandbox metaverse! The studio will build a film-themed entertainment spot called "Action City" which will feature several movie franchises, starting from "Hellboy".

Lionsgate steps into The Sandbox metaverse with "Hellboy": What you need to know

Behold, full firepower is coming your way. The Sandbox just welcomed the first major Hollywood studio into its metaverse and it's none other than Lionsgate! Given that, the studio will build a film-themed entertainment spot called "Action City" in The Sandbox. True to its name, Action City will feature voxel characters and items inspired by Lionsgate's action-packed movies, starting from "Hellboy".

"We can’t wait to open our Lionsgate land in The Sandbox metaverse so fans around the globe can create, play, and explore our film IP in ways that go beyond what’s possible in the physical world," said Jenefer Brown, Executive Vice President and Head of Global Live, Interactive, and Location Based Entertainment at Lionsgate. "We’re excited by the new possibilities our strategic relationship with The Sandbox will offer our community."

Apart from Hellboy, Action City will also launch with other Lionsgate film franchises, including "Rambo" and "The Expendables". However, the Hollywood studio is also considering bringing its rich horror catalog into The Sandbox too. Could we see "American Psycho" running around The Sandbox soon? We'll leave it to Lionsgate to reveal more in the future. 

What are the fans' reactions? 

Without a doubt, fans were more than thrilled upon hearing the bad-ass announcement. As commented by a Twitter user @GR70929120, who is also a metaverse fanatic: "This is SO SICK FAM." Given the fans' enthusiasm, we would expect Lionsgate to launch a series of playable 3D avatars based on its film IPs in the coming weeks. 

The latest move by Lionsgate just shows how much the metaverse concept appeals to big brands around the world. Being an open-world platform, The Sandbox definitely had a run of non-stop collabs with real-world brands and Web3 projects since its launch. With payments giant Mastercard partnering with The Sandbox lately, the metaverse will probably reach mainstream sooner than we thought.
