Meta Hollywood x The Sandbox collab: What you need to know

Last week, Meta Hollywood, the largest Web3 community for movie lovers, studios, and creators joined forces with The Sandbox to build a Hollywood-themed backlot movie studio in the metaverse. 

As part of the collab, Meta Hollywood secured a huge plot of LAND in The Sandbox. According to the group, this is the place where they will host Hollywood-themed events and experiences in the Hollywood backlot studio format. Tons of exciting experiences await, as the new LAND is going to feature horror and action sets, holiday-themed environments, red carpet premiere events, and a memorabilia museum. 

“I'm very excited about our partnership with The Sandbox, which allows us to provide our community members and users with an exclusive, first-of-its-kind Hollywood backlot experience where they can interact and own assets in a dynamic virtual environment made possible by Web3 technology,” said Meta Hollywood co-founder Robert Earl. 

Let's not forget about those movie props

Launched by Animoca Brands and the Planet Hollywood Group, Meta Hollywood has access to more than 60,000 movie memorabilia items and Hollywood IPs. We're talking about coveted items such as the GI in The Karate Kid (1984), Jumanji Game Board in Jumanji (1995), and so much more. 

Given that, Meta Hollywood's new LAND will come with a marketplace of Hollywood-themed voxelized assets. These voxels will be based on Planet Hollywood’s real-life movie memorabilia collection. In fact, those who own one of these assets get to unlock various perks along the way. 

“Meta Hollywood gives cult movie fans the possibility to virtually own a part of Hollywood history and creatively expand it through new stories and adventures in an open metaverse,” said Sebastien Borget, COO and Co-Founder of The Sandbox. “It’s a great way to revive these legendary movies that live in our imagination and collectively relive the experiences.”

Indeed, with more than 165 partnerships as of January 2022, The Sandbox has become a popular hotspot for various IPs looking to make their mark in the metaverse. Just last month, Lionsgate became the first major Hollywood studio to enter The Sandbox, bringing Hellboy and other film IPs to the platform.
