Developer MG Labs has announced that that they are working on switching their first-person hunting metaverse, MetaShooter, to Unreal Engine 5.

Initially developed in Unreal Engine 4, the team has decided to transition to the newest engine as it solves a variety of issues that some players with newer GPUs have been having with the current version of the game. Not only should various graphical problems end up being fixed, but the game will look visually better as well thanks to an improved lighting system. The blockchain title will also make use of the new 3D physics system built into Unreal Engine 5 called Chaos Physics. It acts as a replacement to the Nvidia PhysX system and will be crucial in making the game feel more immersive as the physics system will be used for things such as calculating “the trajectory of bullets and ballistics” and more. Two other features of the new engine that the developers intend to utilize are the MetaSounds audio system and the Niagara particle system. The former will provide better 3D sound while the later will be used for realistic weather effects and weapon particles.

The alpha version of the Polygon-based title went live on Steam last month, allowing players with an alpha invitation key to request playtest access on the store page in order to play the game directly from the biggest video game distribution platform on PC.  The full version of MetaShooter is planned to be released sometime in the first half of 2023, while a mobile version is slated to come out in Q4 this year.
