Miley Cyrus forays into the metaverse with two trademark filings

Get ready to party in the metaverse, as Smiley Miley Inc., the label behind American singer Miley Cyrus has revealed two metaverse trademark filings! Based on the applications, the firm has registered the singer's name MILEY and MILEY CYRUS as trademarks to be used in a new Web3 venture. Let's dive in.

According to U.S. Trademark and Patent Attorney Mike Kondoudis, these trademark applications were filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on August 16th. With that, the singer intends to offer virtual goods, namely virtual art images, clothing, jewelry, headwear, eyewear, footwear, bags, sports equipment, toys, video game equipment, characters, badges, stickers, tokens, emojis, and accessories for use in online games and online virtual worlds.

The applications also cover downloadable computer software for managing virtual goods, virtual currency, and digital assets; energy drinks (yes, you've heard that right); and entertainment services.

As of writing, the star of the Hannah Montana show has not revealed her future plans in Web3. Earlier, Cyrus debuted in the metaverse as an avatar for Gucci Beauty on Roblox. Fans can play alongside her character while navigating different quests and challenges in Gucci Town.

Besides Miley Cyrus, celebs like Paris Hilton and Snoop Dogg have made their mark in the metaverse too. But that's not all. With more and more artists opting to connect with their fans through virtual concerts, MTV even introduced the "Best Metaverse Performance" award category for its Video Music Awards (VMAs) show.

On top of that, Republic Records also filed NFT and crypto trademarks this month, signaling its intent to enter Web3. The move was pretty significant as the music label works with top artists such as Taylor Swift, Drake, Ariana Grande, and more. From the looks of it, who knows? It may not be too long before you can party in the metaverse with a wrecking ball.
