Million on Mars is set to widen its reach within the world of blockchain games

Million on Mars, a blockchain sci-fi MMO, has raised $3.5 million in seed funding to expand its blockchain-based simulation game.

According to Erik Bethke, the CEO of Million on Mars, the latest funding will be used to further develop the game, improve the user experience, and expand the game's features. Interestingly, as a fan of Mars, Bethke believes that the planet will one day have a million people, and his game is designed to simulate such scenarios.

Million on Mars is a single server, single timeline MMO set in the late 21st century on Mars. Players can strategize and craft their way to an NFT Empire by building rovers, constructing buildings, and scavenging the virtual Red Planet. With a rich player-driven economy, players will work together to solve problems and build a thriving settlement of one million people.

"The game is all about what it's going to take to settle on Mars," Bethke told GamesBeat in an interview. "The key concept assumes that SpaceX or Rocket Lab or another space company delivers reasonable rockets and the price of travel in the solar system falls, as we expect, to be quite reasonable. What would you bring to Mars? How would you go about settling?"

Unlike many Web3 games, Million on Mars has already launched its crafting and trading features before receiving the seed funding. Parts of the game were made available by the end of 2021, followed by a cross-chain event with Sunflower Land in May 2022.

"I am extremely proud of our live operations and execution with the overall stability of our project, NFTs and tokens – and were one of the earliest to anchor on the play-and-own model and never play-to-earn," Bethke added. The team is expected to reveal many exciting plans for Million on Mars this year, including a second title in the franchise.
