Move-to-earn Walken goes into public beta
News

After 3 months of closed beta testing, Walken, a move-to-earn blockchain game has gone into public beta on June 7 on iOS and Android devices. According to the Medium post, more than 200k players have already played the open beta.

Those who haven’t played the Solana-based game can download it from the Play Store and App Store and start playing for free with their very own CAThlete, which turns into an NFT once it levels up to level 6.

“There are no two identical CAThletes in the game. Each of them is generated randomly from a set of genes (tail, body, ears, muzzle, environment, and color) that determines both its appearance and skills. So, these in-game characters not only look differently — they all vary in stats points and rarity.”

Closed beta testers will also have to download the game the same way but must make sure they sign up using the same method as they did before in the closed beta, as failing to do so will create a new account, which in turn will cause the game to ban the player for having multiple accounts. Players from the closed beta can log in into their wallet using their wallet pass-phrases from the closed beta, “with all the assets and progress transferred!”

The developers have also revealed the first official Genesis NFT sale, which will contain 10K lootboxes that will be sold using the in-game marketplace. The time for this sale was previously unknown, but in a tweet today, the team revealed that it in fact will take place today, June 20 at 7pm UTC. Two different types of lootboxes will go on sale: Item lootboxes and CAThlete lootboxes. The NFT you get inside a lootbox could be of common, uncommon, rare, epic or legendary rarity, and since each type of lootbox has 3 different kinds of boxes you can purchase, the chances of getting a legendary NFT are obviously higher in the most expensive box than in the cheapest one. CAThlete lootboxes cost 1, 2 and 4 $SOL, while Item lootboxes cost 0.3, 0.6 and 2 $SOL.

Next to the NFT sale, the team has said that there will be breeding in the future, allowing players to “breed a new CAThlete that will inherit a unique gene set from its parents.” There are also plans to make a “Walken protocol, a platform for similar games by us and other developers,” while the requirement to feed your CAThlete NFT is set to come out in the near future.

“Soon CAThletes will need to be fed to keep competing and earning $WLKN. That is, CAThletes will have a lifespan and players will be able to extend it. This feature will be introduced as part of our efforts to combat NFT price inflation and keep players actively engaged. More details will be posted on our Medium soon!”

Speaking of the core earnable token, an IEO (Initial Exchange Offering) is set to take place on June 21 on Bybit and Huobi, while the cryptocurrency will be listed on Gate.io on the same day. Details on gameplay and move-to-earn mechanics can be found on this gameplay guide here.
