The New Detection System

OpenSea has recently announced it will be launching a copymint detection system. According to the NFT marketplace, it is important to help users identify original artworks as many people come onboard the NFT space. This birthed creating a system that can detect copies within seconds and without false positives.

CEO and Co-Founder of OpenSea, Devin Finzer, expressed his happiness as the detection system will position the platform as a place of genuine content. Earlier this year, OpenSea announced that plagiarism and imitation were fast growing as concerning issues in the NFT world. Thus, they started rolling out systems to enhance authenticity and reduce copymints on OpenSea. Soon after, the marketplace updated its approach to verification. It introduced changes such as switching to an invite-based system, a collection badge system for account verification, an in-product experience for notifying creators directly on their page, and a customer support team for responding to applications within seven days.

The second announcement was about reducing copymints, including strategies like image recognition technology and dedicated human review.

OpenSea wants to reduce Fake NFT Copies

OpenSea said,

“With this system, our long-term goal is two-pronged: first, with help from our community, to eliminate all existing copymints on OpenSea; and second, to help prevent new copymints from appearing in the first place. We’ve already started the process of delisting identified copymint collections, and we’ll scale up our removal process in phases over the next several weeks.”

The detection system will significantly benefit OpenSea as it faces stiff competition from several rivals. Some of them include LG Arts Lab, owned by LG, a renowned South Korean giant; the NFT marketplace built by a partnership between PGA Tour and Autograph; and Christie’s 3.0, a marketplace that will help users conduct auctions on the Ethereum Network.
