Developer Pixion Games has announced that they have successfully managed to raise $5.5 million for the continued development of blockchain action RPG Fableborne.
According to the official Twitter thread announcing the funding, the team states that the new financing is set to be used for “supercharging” Pixion League Tournaments in the game while also working on creating an accessible for players to earn in-game assets that are on-chain.
Some of the investors who have backed the studio include Shima Capital, Avalanche fund Blizzard, Avalaunch, Eldridge, Merit Circle, Mechanism Capital, and more.
The announcement is wrapped up with an invitation to the Closed Playtest IV that the team recently shared details about. Interested participants will be able to register for it on June 28th, while the playtesting itself is set to start on July 5th.
Fableborne was revealed as a free-to-play, play-to-own action RPG with base building elements back in March last year, followed by the publishing of its whitepaper a couple of months later. It’s in development by the London-based studio, founded in 2017 and led by founder Kam Punia, previously head of TCG at Konami Northern Europe, who provided his own thread in regards to the recent funding, explaining how user-generated content is a part of the game’s core loop, saying that the “island you build is content for other players to raid” and that “Owning these islands and heroes as you battle is going to drive meaning to player ownership in games.” He also touched on Pixion League, stating that it’s an in-app tournament platform where players will be able to compete for on-chain rewards. The platform is “coming soon” and according to the founder, is set to “boost trading volume while being the perfect entry point for players to discover blockchain at their own pace.”
