Roblox CEO Envisions Web3 and NFT Integration
The lack of urgency suggests a cautious approach as Roblox considers NFT integration.

Roblox CEO David Baszucki has hinted at the potential integration of web3 and NFTs within the Roblox ecosystem. In a recent CNBC interview, the CEO said this integration is needed to challenge the current closed ecosystems of virtual spaces.
Baszucki envisioned a scenario where digital assets, including NFTs, seamlessly move across platforms. He also emphasized the role of creators in fostering this interoperability. He gave a scenario where figures, such as Elton John, could create exclusive items on Roblox and convert them into NFTs for charitable causes. But he didn't explicitly confirm the collaborative aspect of this vision.
This departure from the norm could reshape the functionality of digital assets in the metaverse.
Roblox is not in a hurry for the Integration
This isn't the first time Roblox has hinted at web3 and NFT integrations. In 2022, then Chief Business Officer Craig Donato discussed the possibility of NFTs working on Roblox. This was a possibility but he downplayed the urgency. Despite the platform's colossal 70 million daily active users, Roblox seems in no rush to embrace the web3 trend.
The latest financial report reflects Roblox's robust performance, with $839.5 million in bookings during Q3, a 20% YoY increase. The revenue predominantly comes from the sale of in-app currency, "Robux." Developers earned $170.7 million in the third quarter of 2023, a 13% increase from the same period in 2022.
The diversity of content on the platform remains a key pillar of Roblox's success, offering millions of daily users a wide range of options. Monthly unique payers reached an all-time high of 14.7 million in Q3 2023, showcasing the platform's ability to engage a broad user base. Average bookings per monthly unique payer also saw an increase, reaching $19.02 in Q3 2023.
