Roblox Draws Mixed Reactions from Community With New Avatars
The avatars were announced during the Roblox Developers Conference 2023 and has received a varied response from users.

Roblox's New Avatars
Roblox, a prominent metaverse platform, allows users to create profiles and select avatars. While customization options were previously limited, the default avatars' simple features set Roblox apart. However, with other platforms embracing lifelike avatars, Roblox seems to be following suit.
As the much-anticipated 2023 Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) approaches, the platform has introduced a major update for new users: modern avatars. This significant expansion offers many choices, marking one of the platform's largest updates to date. However, the community's response has been mixed, with criticism and comparisons to NFT collections.
Roblox recently introduced a range of free avatars in the Avatar Shop, allowing players to select from them instead of the default Blocky avatars. This change aligns with plans to enhance Roblox Studio with new features and realistic assets to cater to a more mature audience in preparation for RDC 2023.
Roblox Community Shows Mixed Reactions
While some users and content creators initially embraced the NFT avatar collection released by Roblox, criticism grew over time. Users from other metaverse NFT games began mocking the development. Comparisons were drawn to avatars from platforms like Bitmoji, Horizon Worlds, and Meta, highlighting similarities.
Critics took to Twitter, expressing their discontent with the new avatars. Some argued that the NFT avatars felt out of place in a blocky game like Roblox. Users suggested that Roblox should stick to its iconic, traditional avatars. In the Avatar Shop, users can still choose from over 20 existing characters and customize them to their liking.
Roblox has not responded to user criticism, leaving users eager for updates or clarifications regarding the avatars. The community hopes for clarity before RDC 2023, anticipating further developments and adjustments from the platform.
