Sky Mavis has issued 160k in $AXS as an esports grant for Axie Infinity

Over the weekend, Sky Mavis announced an esports grant worth 160k in $AXS for Axie Infinity. The company will use the funding to plan and carry out professional tournaments and invitationals.

With that, Method MetaGuild, a joint venture blockchain firm, has been announced as the first recipient of the grant. The team can now allocate $160k to different LAN and online competition prize pools.

Sky Mavis will disperse the rest of the funds between Q4 2022 and Q2 2023. These $AXS will be given out as competition prizes based on the scale of the event as below:

  1. Major tournaments - $200,001 to $1,000,000 prize pool. These are large events with substantial prizing, robust online qualifiers, and a notable physical presence with a LAN final.
  2. Minor tournaments - $50,001 to $200,000 prize pool. These are events with less prizing, some online qualifiers, and physical LAN finals at a smaller scale.
  3. Online invitationals & league - $10,000 to $50,000 prize pool. These tourneys are purely online without physical presence and have some form of open qualifiers.
  4. Local tournaments - $1,000 to $9,999 prize pool. These can be regional or local amateur events for smaller organizers, scholarships, and emerging regions.

According to Sky Mavis, the recently launched Axie Infinity: Origins will become an important avenue to develop its esports initiatives. As the game itself is competitive in nature, the firm is looking to onboard more players to partake in Axie Esports.

"The launch of Axie Infinity: Origins is a key milestone in the Axie roadmap that will allow us to unlock the next level of Axie Esports," said Andrew' Zyori' Campbell, Program Lead, Esports, and Content Creator at Sky Mavis.

"It's been empowering to see more of our players engage with Axie Esports, and more traditional gamers enter the Axie ecosystem as we continue to up the ante."
