Web3 gaming platform Soba secures $13.6 million in seed round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, FTX Ventures and Cherry Ventures
The create-to-earn Web3 gaming platform has also launched in alpha, allowing interested creators to sign up to a waitlist to get an early look at the no-coding game builder.
Soba, a Web3 gaming platform offering no-coding game development tools, has managed to secure $13.6 million in a seed funding round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, FTX Ventures and Cherry Ventures
The following investors also took part in the round: TQ Ventures, Point Nine Capital, Jack “CouRage” Dunlop, Alvaro “Alvaro845” González de Buitrago, Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag and Tim “ClashwithAsh” Evans.
Head of FTX Ventures Amy Wu said the following in a statement:
“We’re proud to support Juha Paananen and the Soba team, and believe their experience will help them build a fun open-world gaming platform where Web3 can bring additional value to both players and creators.”
The gaming platform will be free for everyone to use and play on across PC, Mac, mobile devices, consoles and web browsers. Not only will it be possible to play on mobile devices, but making games on them will be an option as well, as the platform has been designed with mobile in mind.
Co-founder and CEO Juha Paananen commented:
“We’re incredibly excited to launch Soba to the first group of creators and players. As we spend more time in digital environments, we believe that everyone should be able to make games and define the rules of play. At the same time, we want to enable owners of digital assets, like NFTs, to build new interactive experiences. We’re using Web3 to build the most creator-friendly gaming platform and we’re proud to be backed by an amazing group of creators and other investors.”
Soba is currently undergoing alpha testing, and anyone who’d like to try it out at this point in time can sign up for the waitlist on their website. Interested creators don’t need to know how to code, as the platform offers simple and powerful visual scripting. Their roadmap is divided into 4 phases, with no specific timeframes revealed. The first phase is the one it’s currently at, the alpha phase. The next one will be a closed beta in which they will add “templates, voice chat, and many more features,” while also kicking off their own Genesis NFTs that’ll let you “become a VIP on the platform.” Phase 3 is the global beta, which is when they’ll kick off the create-to-earn economy and launch their own token, followed by the official launch in Phase 4.
