Solana Smartphone Saga intends to strengthen crypto-mobile relationship
Solana recently announced plans to integrate more web3 apps into the firm's Mobile Stack. The company will also release a new flagship smartphone, “Solana Saga” in the first quarter of 2023.
Solana Saga plans to add products and services for digital assets so that customers can easily buy and sell their cryptocurrencies through the device.
How is the Solana Saga different from other smartphones?
To begin with, the smartphone will include a “secure element” hardware module that will aid the Seed Vault feature. This will keep users' private information safe from attacks and exploits. Solana Saga is expected to have a retail price of around $1,000.
At present, Solana Labs is accepting $100 deposits and will give priority to Solana developers on the list. Early buyers will get a limited-edition NFT to celebrate the launch of the phone.
Anatoly Yakovenko, CEO of Solana, said;
“This is something that I fundamentally believe the industry needs to do. People will pull out their laptops in the middle of dates so they don’t miss an NFT minting opportunity. So I think it’s time for crypto to go mobile,”
The smartphone is set to launch in early 2023. It will have top-of-the-line features like a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, a 6.67" OLED display, 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. In addition to the announcement of Solana Saga, Yakovenko shared the launch of the Solana Mobile Stack, or SMS, a web3 layer for Solana built on the phone.
Solana Mobile Stack (SMS): A Web3 app development kit
The Solana Mobile Stack (SMS) is an open-source software toolkit that enables users to create native Android apps based on the Solana blockchain. This kit contains the Mobile Wallet Adapter, a protocol for plugging in mobile Solana wallets. The company also claims that this feature will work on phones with operating systems other than Android.
Another new feature, Seed Vault, is a software custody solution that protects private keys and seed phrases and other sensitive information secure on an Android device. Lastly, SMS features Solana Pay for Android, allowing mobile payments using the platform.
