Sorare Acquires 585K New Signups During the World Cup
Sorare, a fantasy sports NFT platform, has received 585,000 new signups since the launch of its free-to-play World Cup game on November 10.
The signups established a record for the highest stats ever for a Web3-based sports game. These nearly half a million registrations reflect new users throughout Sorare's gaming platform, including MLB, FIFA, and NBA fantasy contests.
Sorare, founded in 2018, is a leading resource for fantasy sports games throughout the globe. Essentially, it promotes itself as a classic platform created by and for sports lovers. Notably, the gaming platform has over 2 million players worldwide.
How does the Sorare Platform Work?
Basically, players form their fantasy leagues and compete against one another. Users acquire digital collectables of teams and players to trade on the marketplace.
The Sorare Global Cup '22 is a platform-based free-to-play competition. Additionally, Mbappé and Messi are both brand ambassadors and investors for Sorare. The platform came to attention due to its collaboration with two famous soccer players. As a result, during the World Cup 2022, Messi and Mbappé prevailed as the highest-drafted player on the platform.
Moving along, the 585K signups included three games: basketball, baseball, and football. Participants drafted teams for the World Cup game to win prizes such as $6,000 worth of ETH, a kickaround with Zinedine Zidane (the manager of the French national football team), autographs on jerseys, VIP match experiences, and more.
Not to mention, Sorare: Global Cup 22 was played by over 608,000 accounts after the Paris-based startup established collaborations with 18 national soccer clubs in November. The game allows fans to collect and exchange NFT cards of national team players, which they can then use to create lineups for fantasy contests.
Till now, Sorare has hosted over 37,000 private World Cup fantasy leagues. The platform's content developer Fiago formed the biggest private league, with 27,000 users. Furthermore, the top three most picked players were Lionel Messi, Kevin De Bruyne and Kylian Mbappé.
Sorare has licence agreements with over 300 sports organisations, including MLB, MLS, Serie A, NBA, and Bundesliga leagues. The NBA has a shareholding in Sorare, which raised $680 million in September 2021 at a value of $4.3 billion.
