Starbucks' Web3 loyalty platform is now live in beta

Renowned multinational coffee chain Starbucks has released its NFT royalty program, Starbucks Odyssey, for beta testing. First announced in September, the program includes coffee-themed NFTs that can be used for real-life experiences and serves as an extension of Starbucks' existing loyalty program, Starbucks Rewards.

This one-of-a-kind initiative is now available to the first group of US beta testers and runs on the Polygon blockchain. According to an earlier announcement, the coffee giant envisioned Odyssey as a means for loyal customers to earn a broader set of rewards.

Customers can interact with immersive activities called "Journeys" through the Odyssey platform. These include watching videos, taking quizzes, solving puzzles, and even trying out new drinks at physical Starbucks stores. Upon completion, users will earn member points. At around 500 points, they will receive Journey Stamps - Starbucks' moniker for NFTs - that unlock even more experiences.

There are three levels of perks and benefits to be unlocked. At lower levels, members could access online experiences, such as a virtual class that teaches you how to make espresso martinis or provides access to unique artist merchandise. As members gain more points and NFTs, they can access IRL experiences, such as special Starbucks Reserve Roasteries events or a trip to the Costa Rica Starbucks Hacienda Alsacia coffee farm.

These points will accumulate over the course of the year and reset to zero by the year's end. However, customers will still retain their NFTs, which can be used to customize their Starbucks Cards or printed on other merchandise.

The first series of Journey Stamps will feature memorable designs inspired by Starbucks' history, such as its first location in Pike Place Market in Seattle. Others will feature classic designs and this year's "Gift-Wrapped Magic" holiday cup art. If interested, you can join the waitlist for a chance to test out the Odyssey app.
