Liu Jiaming Exits Tencent Weibo
Liu Jiaming, the chairman of Tencent Weibo, a top Chinese microblogging website, resigned on July 15. Based on the report released, Jiaming will now join Hong Kong-based Animoca Brands as the Chief Business Officer to manage all company subsidiaries.
Confirming this report to the local media channel, Tencent Weibo revealed that he resigned from his position based on personal reasons. Meanwhile, Zhou Kejun, the company’s CEO and general manager, will continue to preside over this coveted position.
Work History of Liu Jiaming
Before joining Tencent Weibo in 2016, he worked as an investment banking analyst at Citibank and as a partner at McKinsey & Company. Then, he came to Tencent as the handler of the Internet insurance business, where he steered the development direction, formed a team, and got an agent license for the company. Once Jiaming officially works at Animoca Brands, he will be responsible for the 300+ acquisitions and investment companies. Furthermore, He will spearhead mergers, acquisitions, and local and foreign partnerships.
The last major funding for Animoca Brands occurred this year on January 19, when it raised $359 million in a funding round, a deal that saw the market cap of Animoca Brands surging beyond $5 billion. Major participants included Liberty City Ventures, Winklevoss Capital, Sequoia China, 10T Holdings, Soros Fund Management, and Gemini Frontier Fund.
Although this development has not been officially confirmed by Animoca Brands nor Liu Jiaming, there is a high probability that Jiaming is heading in this direction.
