The Sandbox announces the Atari Game Jam
News

Pixowl, the developers of the decentralized gaming platform The Sandbox, have announced the Atari Game Jam, hosted in partnership with the iconic video game company.

Participants will be able to create a game based on a mix of two of 17 different Atari IPs using The Sandbox Game Maker, a game engine that allows anyone to make 3D games for the platform without coding. The IPs that can be used for this game jam include the following: Pong, Asteroids, Breakout, Adventure, Combat, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Tempest, Swordquest, Missile Command, Black Widow, Yars’ Revenge, Millipede, Miner 2049er, Alien Brigade, Food Fight and Human Cannonball.

The reward pool for this game jam is 30k $SAND, split across the top 10 entries. First place gets 12k $SAND and a “50 Years of Atari” NFT while 2nd place is awarded with 7k $SAND, 3rd 4k $SAND and the remaining spots 1k $SAND each.

Submissions will open on September 19, and participants will have almost a month to submit their entry, with the deadline being October 16 at 3 PM UTC. Once the deadline has passed, The Sandbox and Atari staff will commence gathering and voting entries on October 17 and finish on November 6, while the actual results will be revealed on November 12.

In order to successfully submit an entry, some of the requirements that have to be fulfilled include using at least 25 different assets, making the game after the start date, following the theme of the jam and more. For more important info such as entry guidelines and instructions on submitting an entry, check out the official post here.

The Sandbox Alpha Season 3 is currently underway having started last month, allowing players to jump into over 90 different experiences for free.
