The Sandbox will only support Ethereum's PoS chain after the Merge

As we're getting closer to the Merge next week, The Sandbox has taken a clear stance on supporting the Ethereum proof-of-stake (PoS) network.

Accordingly, the platform will not support any potential ETH proof-of-work (PoW) forks after the Merge. Thus, all tokens associated with The Sandbox on such chains will be worthless in the future.

Good news is that all current token holders do not need to take any action. After the Merge is complete, their digital assets in The Sandbox will exist on the ETH PoS chain. But as a precaution, the platform does not recommend its users to interact with any ETH PoW forks.

The team expects the Merge to take place on 15 September 2022 at 00:00 (UTC). Around this time, The Sandbox will disable all Ethereum features such as marketplace, token bridge, claiming, and minting operations. This is to ensure a smooth transition on that day.

It's very likely for the Ethereum upgrade to run smoothly. However, The Sandbox will still monitor its smart contracts before and after the Merge for any vulnerabilities. Staking on Polygon will remain uninterrupted at this time.

About the Ethereum Merge

The Merge is a highly-anticipated event marking Ethereum's first step to achieving ETH 2.0. Once done, the network will transition to the PoS model, ending its PoW consensus mechanism. The move will also reduce the network's energy consumption by ~99.95%, setting the stage for scaling in the future.

Many Web3 platforms and blockchain gaming studios have voiced their support for ETH PoS in the past few weeks. These include Axie Infinity, Mythical Games, OpenSea, LooksRare, Circle, Chainlink, and more.

If the Merge goes as planned, it will help reduce processing times and lower transaction fees on Ethereum. This will surely benefit the many Web3 ecosystems thriving on this network today.
