Ubisoft Announces Free Ethereum NFTs for its Web3 Game 'Champions Tactics'
The NFT drop features a series of pixel-heroes dubbed 'Warlords PFPs,' which grant early access to acquire in-game Champions figurines.

In a move merging the worlds of Web3 and gaming, Ubisoft, the creator of the Assassin's Creed franchise, has announced plans to offer free Ethereum NFTs for its blockchain game, Champions Tactics. This follows the company's venture into blockchain in 2021 when Tezos NFTs were integrated into Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
The announcement, made via Twitter, outlines Ubisoft's strategy to host a free NFT mint for a series of Champions Tactics PFPs (profile pictures). These NFTs will be developed on Oasys, a gaming-focused blockchain platform.
Dubbed 'Warlords PFPs,' these NFTs feature a retro, pixel-hero design reminiscent of classic video games. According to Ubisoft, owning one of these will grant early access to mint in-game Champions figurines, which are also free. Warlords has a total count of 9,999, with 8,000 available through the mint, 1,000 reserved for the Oasys community, and the remaining 999 held by Ubisoft for promotional purposes.
Right now, Ubisoft is running a campaign on Twitter where users can like, retweet, and comment on the news to get a chance to be on the minting allowlist. 50 lucky users will be randomly picked for the allowlist and gain access to a private Discord server.
Champions Tactics was first revealed in the summer. And the company has steadily unveiled more details about this crypto-native game. It is touted as an online strategy game with fantasy characters that resemble tabletop figurines.
Elsewhere, Ubisoft has teamed up with Immutable, a crypto infrastructure and gaming firm, to create a Web3 gaming experience. This collab aims to leverage the Immutable X layer-2 blockchain, already used in other NFT games like Gods Unchained and Guild of Guardians.
Per the official website, Champions Tactics is slated for a PC release in early 2024, promising a unique blend of mainstream gaming with the emerging world of blockchain tech.
