Ubisoft Ventures into Blockchain Gaming with Immutable Partnership
Assassin's Creed publisher Ubisoft is reportedly teaming up with Immutable to create a 'Web3 gaming experience.'

Ubisoft, the renowned publisher behind hit titles like Assassin's Creed, is diving deeper into crypto by partnering with Immutable, a crypto infrastructure and gaming company. Together, the duo is working on what they describe as a "Web3 gaming experience" to provide players with a unique form of "digital ownership."
Immutable is best known for its Immutable X layer-2 blockchain, which has already been adopted by popular games like Gods Unchained and Guild of Guardians. Ubisoft Strategic Innovation Lab's VP, Nicolas Pouard, who is also at the helm of the company's Web3 efforts, expressed his enthusiasm for the collab, citing Immutable's seamless integration for developers looking to incorporate crypto elements into their projects.
Pouard stated, "We're excited to partner with them and look forward to bringing that level of fluidness within a full-fledged game, so players only have to focus on the fun of the experience."
Immutable CEO and co-founder, James Ferguson, emphasized their commitment to offering "digital ownership" to players through this collab, with plans to "bring the full weight of their ecosystem" to ensure the project's success. While the announcement remains somewhat vague about the project's specifics, it has ignited speculation within the Web3 space.
The nature of this collab remains unknown, leaving room for conjecture. It could take the form of a brand-new blockchain game, incorporating Immutable's tech into an upcoming Ubisoft game, or even a gamified experience similar to a "collect to earn" model in which players can earn NFTs through gameplay.
Note that this is not Ubisoft's first foray into NFTs. The company has previously released NFTs inspired by its Rabbids game on The Sandbox and Reddit. In 2021, it also gave out free Tezos NFTs for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Although the firm halted support for Ghost Recon NFTs in April 2022, Ubisoft has stated that it intends to include blockchain tech in future games.
In a separate announcement earlier this year, Ubisoft revealed its plans to develop a tactical RPG dubbed "Champions Tactics" on the Oasys blockchain. The firm has also taken on the role of a network validator for the Cronos blockchain, underlining its commitment to exploring the power of blockchain tech. As the partnership with Immutable unfolds, many eagerly await more details on what promises to be a major Web3 gaming experience.
